Painting, printmaking, sculpture and video are used in the making of my images.

I enjoy the layering processes used in collage, assemblage and video as much as the ideas that are developed from them.

For me, Idea and process become intertwined.

Usually, I begin a work using gestural drawings and dynamic compositional actions combined with video projections. The detail and the meanings associated with the work evolve as the composition  progresses. The "paintings" use acrylic on Lexan and/or birch plywood as a compositional matrix upon which I collage relief prints, bond ceramic sculpture, incorporate video and complete the process with painting in acrylic or oil and alkyd mixed with permanent pigment.  The videos are developed in Final Cut Studio from raw footage of life in Havana and in Northern Ontario, from my paintings and sculpture and from green room footage shot in my studio.  I integrate animation and special effects using Motion in Final Cut Studio. The sculptures are fabricated from stoneware ceramic, fibreglass and in some cases found objects bonded using the West system of epoxy.

These methods of working are the results of time spent in Mexico and the strong influence of the Mexican muralists Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros pictured here with David Carlin in the studio of Siqueiros, Cuernavaca, Mexico 1968.
